I Would Walk 500 Miles

Morning all.

A wee commissioned card to show you today - I was asked to make a birthday card for someone who is walking the West Highland Way. I was a bit stuck for an image but I asked the lovely ladies at Digi Galore and was pointed in the direction of this fab stamp from MayzyArt. I coloured her in with my pens and then chalked in the background. I also found the wee compass stamp in a Little Yellow Bicycle set I've got and I even broke out the heat gun so I could emboss it!

I think the birthday was yesterday so I'm hoping that the birthday girl received her card and liked it!

Love to Create Challenge

Morning all.

It's time for a new challenge at Love to Create

This week our theme is

Read All About It
so you can either add a book to your creation or create a bookmark...

Our sponsors this week are QKR Stampede and Wings and Willows both of whom were kind enough to give the DT images to play with.

I've used a Wings and Willows image for my card - Back to School Boy. And where the wee while of books is should have been a wooden button that was in the shape of a pile of books that I bought specially for this card.... only it has completely vanished! Thankfully Cass came to my rescue with a piece of MME paper which also had a pile of books on it! You know what will happen now though don't you... the button will turn up!

Hello again!

The paper I've used is paper that the lovely Lisa sent me in a DT pack so I don't actually know what it is - the ribbon came in the same pack.  This card has now winged it's way back down to Eastbourne for Lisa to display in her shop.

Happy Birthday Dad

I always think it's appropriate to share this song on my Dad's birthday, he would have been 88 today!

Saturday, 25 May 2013

Mmmmm.

Afternoon from a warm and sunny Glasgow. No, you're not hallucinating, I really did write that. I can't believe it either!

So, I'm not sure about today's card. Actually that's not true, I'd go so far as to say I actually dislike this card, sorry to hurt Bumblebee's feelings here but I feel I know you well enough to be honest!  I wanted to get her done so that I could share on Sugary Sunday on Facebook and on the Sugar Bowl....

Ho hum, onwards and upwards.

Totally Papercrafts Challenge

Morning all, it's Friday and that means it's time for a new challenge at Totally Papercrafts

This week it's the turn of the lovely Kim to set the challenge and she has chosen the theme

Buttons

Now this is a very sad challenge at TPC because this is Kim's very last challenge with us as she is moving on to pastures new. I'm really going to miss her as will the rest of the team!

We're sponsored this week by Bearly Mine and The Ribbon Girl

And here is my, fairly simple card. I've used the swirl from the Stampin Up Baroque Motifs set to make it look like a tree and cut the hearts off the Precious Hearts die and replaced them with the buttons. Simples! And... can I let you into a wee secret.... the kraft paper... it's actually an old envelope I've  recycled/upcycled/whatever!

Mid Month Inspiration for Christmas at Sweet Stampin'

Morning all.

It's time for some mid month inspiration for Christmas At Sweet Stampin'

A wee reminder that this month our theme is

Winter Sports

Our sponsor this month is Quixotic Paperie who are offering a £10 voucher to the winner.

Now I have to be honest, I designed this card one day while I was day dreaming when I should have been listening... oops! But I love the way he's come together.

I simply embossed some white pearlescent card and then tore some to add to the bottom to give the effect of snow. I also made poor Andy go out and buy cocktail sticks and then found the ones I had bought originally! (to be fair, he was actually out shopping anyway!)

Sweet Stampin' Challenge

Morning all, it's Saturday and that means it's time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin'.

This week our theme is

Doodling

This was a toughie for me - I hate doodling, it just looks silly when I try to do it!

Our sponsor this week are Sir Stampalot and Crafters Companion - check out Sweet Stampin' for more details.  Our monthly sponsor is The Ribbon Girl who are offering a £10 voucher to the monthly winner.

And this is my card. I've used the fab Max from Visible Image and gone for a monochrome look for him. You will note the minimal amount of doodling around the sentiment!

The Dambusters

*creeps in* morning, isn't this early?!

I have scheduled this post because it's what my Dad would have done - he used to stay up late on 16th May and drink a wee dram in toast to the men of 617 Squadron.

70 years ago on the night of 16th/17th May 1943 19 specially modified Avro Lancaster bombers of 617 Squadron under the command of Wing Commander Guy Gibson  took off from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire to carry out Operation Chastise. The attack on the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe dams in the Ruhr Valley in Germany would make history and lead to the Squadron being known as the Dambusters.

Of the 19 Lancasters that left Scampton, only 9 returned - but the success of the mission was a turning point in the war.

I saw this on my Facebook feed earlier and it seemed an appropriate photo to share - I have no idea where it came from but the page I got it from was Wear Your Poppy With Pride.

I decided to create a wee card in tribute today.. and here it is. I've used the LOTV stamp Aeroplane and I had a bit of fun with the Aeroplane itself, I coloured it green and then added some brown camo effect. I know it doesn't look anything like a Lancaster Bomber but I liked the effect.

Shh... No One Is Watching....

Morning all.

Today it's my lovely friend Yvonne's birthday, but I'm not saying how old she is ;)

The idea for this card grew as I started making it! I had a vague idea that I was going to use Wryn and I Spy and somehow have the age as something tiny in the corner.

After I'd coloured Wryn in with my pens (and glossy accented her glasses) I added some pearls to her as her buttons I was about to print off the I Spy sentiment when I thought I'd make it look like a page of a notebook.... I was also having a cuppa at the time too and decided that a cup ring mark might be a good embellishment too. I didn't want to make another cup of tea though and in a conversation with Cathy she said "ink the bottom of the cup"... so I did just that with some Vintage Photo DI! I like the effect though.

City Girl

Oooh it's a very long time (well, it feels like it anyway since I used a Sugar Nellie stamp) but I made this for an 18th birthday at the weekend.  I just couldn't decide what stamp to use and I had started colouring in another image while I was at the Crafty Cabin but it just wasn't working for me and Cass suggested using one of the Simply Sassy images and this one jumped out and hit me in the face and said "use me"... well, not quite but it did speak to me more than the original choice did!

I coloured her in with my pens and cut her out using one of the 5x7 Nesties, added some swirls and some bling and she was done. I was trying to get an 18 on there too but I think that would have been a step too far.

Love to Create Challenge

Morning all.

It's time for a new challenge at Love to Create

This week our theme is

Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers

Our sponsor this week is Sassy Studio.

I've gone for something a little different today... I decided to go with the Wicked Witch and give her black and green flowers cos I didn't want to do just a pretty card with lots of flowers.  She's very much been created with scraps from the scrap box too, poor little witch!

I stamped round the edge of the witch with a grungy flourish from a Tim Holtz set of stamps that I think I have used once before. I know. Shocking eh?!

That Craft Place Challenge

Morning all.

It's time for a new challenge at That Craft Place

This time our theme is

For A Man

Now normally I don't struggle with men/boy cards but this time I just didn't know what I was going to do and I had vague ideas about a lot of things and then I hit on the idea of doing a canvas. I used a friend as my inspiration as he's just got a new job and will be moving away - although I must add that he looks nothing like Edward!

I stamped round the corners of the grey card and the grey paper with a kind of grungy flourish from Stemplegelde - was wishing I had had the Visible Image grunge flourish to do it with... maybe next month!

I printed some of the lyrics from the Pink Floyd song Breathe and grunged the edges of that too. Perhaps Edward himself could have done with a spot of grunging too but it's a bit late now!!
